A bypass had long been a wish of the residents of Chesterford, which lied along the only road between the city of [[Haphonia]] and the airport. Although the [[Conservative Party]] initially expressed disapproval for the project, speculating that funds were allocated on the basis of the strong support for the [[Liberal Party]] in the [[Chesterford (electoral district)|Chesterford electoral district]], neither the [[Marcus Smallegan|Smallegan]] government nor the [[John Goodwin|Goodwin]] government canceled the project.
