A general election will take place on 4 September 2014. Members of the House of Commons in the 17th Parliament will be elected. Prime Minister Roger Pollack announced on 31 July that he would advise the Governor-General to dissolve the 16th Parliament the next day.
Date
The 16th Parliament expires on 12 September 2014, three years after its first meeting. The election for members of the House of Commons in the 17th Parliament must take place between 20 and 30 working days after the dissolution of the 15th Parliament. The latest possible date for an election is therefore 12 October 2014, a Sunday, although elections are traditionally held on Thursdays.
